“I really don’t know why it is that all of us are so committed to the sea, except I think it’s because in addition to the fact that the sea changes, and the light changes, and ships change, it’s because we all came from the sea. And it is an interesting biological fact that all of us have in our veins the exact same percentage of salt in our blood that exists in the ocean, and, therefore, we have salt in our blood, in our sweat, in our tears. We are tied to the ocean. And when we go back to the sea – whether it is to sail or to watch it – we are going back from whence we came.”

History

ALPHA ADRIATIC d.d. was founded on 1 September 1986, as a wholly owned subsidiary of the ULJANIK Group under the former company name ULJANIK PLOVIDBA. The business was focused on the ownership and management of its own fleet of multipurpose and bulk carriers.

The privatization process began in 1994 through several phases and was completed in 1998 following which ALPHA ADRIATIC d.d. was no longer part of the ULJANIK Group and became an independent company owned by more than 5.000 small shareholders. From 1994 to 2002, the Group had a representative office in London attending to commercial, banking, insurance and legal matters. In 1997, the scope of services provided expanded to include third party ship management of the cruise ship “Dalmacija”, which later became part of the owned fleet.

After the shares of ALPHA ADRIATIC d.d. were listed on the Zagreb Stock Exchange in 2003, in 2004 the company entered into a significant investment cycle and over the following eight years, around USD 500 million were invested in the modernization and renewal of its own dry cargo and tanker fleet, including funds collected through five successful capital increases between 2005 and 2019. From 2004, the Group has entered a new market segment – liquid cargo transportation, by investing in its own fleet of oil and chemical tankers and from 2012 it has continued to develop technical management services for third parties in the tanker sector. A new management subsidiary in Singapore – Alpha Adriatic Shipmanagement Pte. Ltd. was established in 2014 and the scope of ship management services further expanded to include third party ship management for two ro-pax ships. In October 2019 the company name was changed from ULJANIK PLOVIDBA to ALPHA ADRIATIC, as part of a broader rebranding project and as an expression of the company’s desire to modernize and reposition itself on the international market.

Alpha DCM Investments LLC, established in 2021 as an equity investment joint venture vehicle between ALPHA ADRIATIC Group and DC Maritime Partners B.V., purchased the second-hand bulk carriers “Punta” and “Valovine” in August 2021.  ASP Adriatic d.o.o. was established in 2021 as a joint venture between ALPHA ADRIATIC Group, ASP Group and Mr. Eduard Hibšer, with the aim to strengthen and further develop crewing services and human resources management as one of the key functions in the ship management industry. Today, ALPHA ADRIATIC is a modern and innovative group that diversifies its activities to adapt to a dynamic maritime market.

Environment protection and social responsibility

ALPHA ADRIATIC strives to conduct all its business processes in a socially responsible manner, to reduce negative impact on the environment and prevent pollution. We pay special attention to approved and proven technical solutions compliant with all applicable regulations, high industry standards and ensuring fuel savings, pollution reduction and environmental protection.

Through continuous monitoring and tracking of new technological solutions in shipping and the education of our on-board and shore staff, we strive to reduce the negative impact of our fleet on the environment and to protect environment for future generations.
